Pat has diverse experience in the private and public sectors. He has served as an attorney, private business owner and public servant in many different capacities. Some of his specific experience is listed below:
Onondaga County Legislature
Pat Kilmartin currently serves as Onondaga County Legislator for the 11 Legislative District. His district includes the most of the Town of Onondaga, and parts of the Town of Camillus.
Presently, Pat serves as Chairman of the Public Safety Committee. As Chairman, he is responsible for oversight of all the public safety departments and agencies within Onondaga County government. All public safety fiscal and policy issues will come before the Public Safety committee for review and analysis before they go to the full Legislature for consideration. The agencies involved in County public safety include: the District Attorney Office, the Jamesville Penitentiary, the Crime Laboratory, the Sheriffs Department and the Justice Center Jail.
Pat also serves as a member of the Ways and Means Committee.The Ways and Means Committee oversees all fiscal matters impacting County government. The Ways and Means Committee is charged with crafting the annual County budget, holding public hearings on all County expenditures and oversight of all County spending. Pat has served as a member of this Committee for three years.Previously, Pat has served as Chairman of the County Education and Libraries Committee and as a member of the Health Committee.
Pat was appointed to serve as County Legislator in 2006 by then County Executive Nicholas J. Pirro. Pat won election to remain as County Legislator in November, 2007 and again in November, 2009. His current Legislative term continues through 2010 and 2011.
Small Business Owner
Pat is an owner of a small family owned real estate company which owns and operates retail, office and commercial buildings within greater Central New York and along the east coast. The company has been in existence for more than seven years and employs nine people in its Syracuse office. In addition to being an owner, Pat serves as legal counsel to the business.
Former Prosecutor
Pat served as an Assistant District Attorney in Onondaga County for more than three years prosecuting felonies and misdemeanors in County Court and various City, Town and Village courts throughout the County. Pat served in the City Court Division, the Felony Trial Division and the DWI Division and focused on prosecuting DWI related cases including vehicular manslaughters, vehicular homicides and vehicular assaults for a number of years. He also prosecuted violent felonies and cases of domestic violence.
Zoning Board Town of Onondaga
Before becoming a County Legislator, Pat was appointed to serve as a member of the Town of Onondaga Zoning Board of Appeals. He served in this position for more than two years and during his final year of service was appointed Chairman of the Zoning Board.
Attorney in Private Practice
For more than thirteen years, Pat has been a practicing attorney and he has been in the private practice of law for more than a decade. Pat has represented individuals, families and businesses on matters ranging from family court matters, zoning issues, contracts, real estate transactions, and criminal matters.
